having some issues with the site, we’re working on it and should have it resolved soon.
After trying extremely hard to acquire this coveted device for the past week, I finally have an iPhone 3G in my pocket. With two Apple stores within 5 minutes of me, I was pretty optimistic about my chances, but boy was I wrong. Apple supposedly was posting on their website (www.apple.com/retail/iphone) the next day’s iPhone 3G availability at all their retail stores. This website couldn’t have been more wrong. I checked the night before and the website said iPhone available at one of the stores near me. I strolled up to the store and there it was, the sign that said “iPhone 3G currently unavailable”. GREAT. Once inside, I asked an employee and sure enough, they told me they had sold out for the day, but to try the other store nearby.
After having a couple days to play with iPhone firmware 2.0 and the newly opened App Store, I have to say, I am more than a little upset that the one big feature I have been itching for is no where to be found. That feature? The syncing of to-do lists and notes
It all started a few month before Leopard was released, everyone who had an iPhone and used the nice little “notes” feature had their prayers answered. One of the “300+” new features for Leopard was the ability to sync notes between your phone and your mac via the mail application. Then, just as soon as it came, it was gone. Removed from the release notes without an explanation. After the release of Leopard it was apparent that the feature was there in some capacity, Mail.app has a “notes” button that brings up a notepad that looks suspiciously like the notes application on the iPhone.

Now that the iTunes App Store has been open for a few days and I’ve had a chance to download and play with a good deal of them, I am going to have go ahead and say that my overall feeling was disappointed, but hopeful.
As Ryan mentioned in an earlier post, the facebook was not connecting. That is no longer the case. I have played around with it and I am not convinced its any better than the web app other than it allows you to chat (who really chats anyways?).
See the pics after the break.
Digging through the options and such in the iPhone 2.0 firmware, I stumbled on this MobileMe page that I haven’t seen before.
Nothing big, just thought I would share.

File this one under things that could have been BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION YESTERDAY.
Apparently its really really easy to take screen grabs of your pretty new iPhone applications, all you have to do is hold down the home button and tap the power button and FLASH, you got yourself a pretty picture. Now all those idiots holding their iPhone up to their built-in iSight look stupid.
For those who care, here are some better quality screenshots of the apps I talked about in my earlier post after the jump.
Well if you have been paying attention to any of the Apple news this morning, you’ve undoubtedly been inundated with news of updates and releases and what not. In the flood of information, I was able to find, download and install the 2.0 firmware early. My early reaction? AWESOME!

iPhone 2.0 walk through
Here is my chronicle of the iphone 2.0 experience.
1. This morning I immediately opened up iTunes, and went to the Check for Updates section. It did not find updates.
2. I then went to software update in my OS X and the new iTunes version was found there. Downloaded and installed.
3. I launched the new iTunes….everything looks the same. I consult GuruRyan and he tells me that I have to enable the Applications settings by going to the preferences section in iTunes and check off the Applications box.
4. Success! iTunes app store now viewable. I download a bunch of (free) apps, such as AIM & Pandora.
5. Wait, what do I do with them? iPhone software 2.0 is not currently available and when check for updates is run from the iPhone panel in iTunes, nothing is found.
6. iPhone software version 2.0 has not been officially launched yet, but wait –
You can download it here from apples servers (credit goes to macrumors for the find)
7. Downloading iPhone software 2.0
8. Restoring iPhone with new software…..
9. Takes longer than I would think, the preparing to restore prompt stayed up for a while, don’t be scared.
10. Success! Took about 25 minutes to complete the operation start to finish.
11. Installing apps….
12. Now playing with phone, check back for part II where I will play with the pwngetool!
I hope other lazy/noncutting edge users like me found this helpful.
Thanks to Ryan and the other sites for their help.
