Refurbished Macbook Air Laptops

I want to buy a macbook air, do the current ones still have the same problems as the old ones?o-heating etc.?

I’ve been reading stuff on them, but not any current stuff on the current airs, I wanna get a refurbished one on apples website since they have the same warranty as new laptops, but I wanna know if the new ones still have lots of problems, I’d be basically using it for i-net typing papers I’m not a gamer at all so that’s not a problem although I do like to watch movies so that might be a problem, any advice? I really do like the whole look, but I don’t wanna get a bad laptop eitherthnks in advance

I have the Rev. C MacBook Air (i.e. the current model) with a 2.13GHz CPU and 128GB SSD. I have to admit, the laptop *can* overheat.

If you watch Flash videos (e.g. YouTube, and especially YouTube HD) for extended periods of time (e.g. 15mins+) or a HiDef (720p or 1080p) movie and either the ambient temperature is quite high (e.g. 30 degress Celsius+) or there is bad ventilation (e.g. in bed with doona/quilt blocking most of the air flow), it can overheat, causing (it seems, one core to shutdown and a process “kernel_task” to take up excessive CPU cycles). However, it can be quickly remedied by closing the lid (sending the Air to sleep) then waking it up again. But I’ve noticed that as long as you keep air flow good, even in fairly high ambient temps (of over 30 degrees C), the Air can play a full HD MKV movie without a hiccup. Sadly, the fan does rev up to a fairly noticeable whirr, so headphones are recommended for extended sessions of Flash or HD video.

Luckily, watching normal Standard Def (SD) videos (e.g. 700MB movies) is not a problem at all for the Air, and web surfing, word processing and music etc isn’t even a challenge, with the temperatures quite cool and the fan silent. And if you do end up getting the Air, I recommend an app called smcFanControl, which lets you monitor the fan speed and CPU temperature from the taskbar as well as modify minimum fan speeds to keep the Air cooler.

So in summary, the biggest challenge for a MacBook Air user is to give the Air some air to breathe (terrible pun intended).

Just got the Macbook Air…..
